List of Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the B-segment (small cars).
One thing that Kia and Hyundai have done really well over the last decade or so is to ensure that they have a vehicle in just about every major vehicle segment.
From sub-compacts to SUV’s, Kia and Hyundai had their customers covered.
There is stiff competition to be found in each of those segments, but perhaps none as stiff as what is found in the B-segment category, which is where the South Korean carmakers have been especially active lately.
Hyundai & Kia subcompact cars in 2021
- Kia Rio 5-door / Rio 4-door sedan
- Hyundai i20 5-door
- Hyundai i20 5-door Active
- Kia Soul
- Kia Soul EV
- Kia Venga MPV
- Hyundai ix20 MPV
- Kia Stonic
- Hyundai Kona / Kona EV
The A-segment consists of small city cars such as the Kia Picanto and Fiat 500, while the C-segment is filled with larger sedans, such as the Kia Forte, Hyundai Elantra and Chevy Cruze.
The B-segment vehicles sit right in the middle of those groups, and are very popular in Europe, which is where both automakers are trying to build their brand.
When you look at the number of models that Kia and sister company Hyundai have in the B-segment, you can see that it is crowded by those two alone, and that is not even taking into account the models that the competition has in there.
We thought it would be a good idea to give you guys a bit of a breakdown of all the Korean models currently available in the B-segment.
Small Kia (& Hyundai) models in EU and USA
Kia Rio small hatchback & sedan
Kia Rio B segment car, which has just undergone a full redesign, is now in its 4th generation. Older versions came as a 3- or 5-door hatch model, but the new release is currently only available as a 5-door (on sale in EU and US), with a 4-door being available only in the United States.
Hyundai i20 has just received a big makeover after being on the market for more than 5 years. Built in Turkey, the all-new Hyundai i20 hatchback is available as a 5-door hatchback, while the previously available 3-door coupe variant has been discontinued.
Hyundai i20 Active
The i20 Active is a 5-door hatchback model that is more rugged looking, and which comes with more ground clearance. One thing you won’t get in the i20 Active, though, is AWD.
2022 Kia Soul crossover
You don’t need to be a Kia fan to recognize this iconic model out on the road. The Soul was given a big makeover for the 2020 model year to keep it fresh in this highly competitive market. On sale today is already the 2022 Kia Soul, which gained some new features and a brand-new Kia logo.
Kia Soul EV electric car (not yet launched in U.S.)
The Soul also comes as an all-electric model. The new generation model delivers a 243-mile range, which is twice as much as the previous generation model. This all-electric Kia vehicle has been on sale in Europe for 2 years already, but it was not yet released in the United States.
Kia Venga small MVP (not on sale anymore)
This small MVP is a model that is sold in Europe only, and is manufactured in Kia’s production plant in Slovakia. The Venga is a 5-seater that comes with a ton of cargo space inside.
This model has been on the market for 5 years, but it’s tough to say whether it will be around much longer. In Europe, small minivans are losing ground to small SUV models, so we would not be surprised to see this one phased out when Kia introduces the new Stonic small SUV.
- Kia news update: Kia Venga is no longer available in Europe!
Hyundai ix20 small minivan
Much like the Venga, this is a smaller MVP from Hyundai. It uses the same powertrain technology as the Venga, but looks different inside and out. It may also be discontinued when Hyundai’s new small SUV hits the market.
Kia Stonic small SUV
This is the latest addition to the European Kia model range. The Stonic is about the same size as the Rio hatchback, but features higher ground-clearance. It does not offer AWD, although we would love to see a small Kia SUV with all wheel drive system.
2022 Hyundai Kona / Kona EV
The Kona SUV features a funky styling that you either love or hate. In our humble opinion, this is one of the most attractive Hyundai vehicles. It comes available with AWD. It also comes as an all-electric model having the best driving range among small electric vehicles.
