The Kia Ceed family is growing, with the Xceed compact crossover now part of the line-up. Think of this new model as a beefed-up version of the Ceed hatchback.
While the new 2020 Kia Xceed may be based on the hatchback, it is in fact very different, with every body panel other than the front doors being different.
The front and rear overhangs are larger by 25 and 60 mm, respectively, while also being 26 mm wider and sporting an increased 42 mm ground clearance. The wheelbase, which checks in at 2,650 mm, is exactly the same as all the other Ceed models.
Additions have been made to make the exterior look a little more rugged. This includes the addition of plastic cladding, a different lighting set-up, changes to the front and rear bumpers, an arched roofline behind the B-pillars, and updated grille and silver roof rails.
There are a pair of different wheel sizes (16- and 18-inch) to choose from, as well as 12 exterior colors, including the brand-new Quantum Yellow.
Interior of Kia Xceed
The interior of the Xceed is essentially the same as the original model, with soft-touch materials used throughout. Satin chrome trim is also featured, as is your choice of cloth, synthetic, and genuine leather upholstery.
One thing that is unique to the Xceed is a yellow color pack, which has yellow stitching highlighting the black materials. Drivers have the option of an 8- or 10.25-inch touchscreen display, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Trunk space has been updated by 31 liters to 426 liters when all seats are in place.
Kia Xceed engine specifications
- 3 gasoline turbo engines
- 2 diesel engines
- 7-speed DCT or 6-speed maunal transmission
The new Xceed will come with a trio of petrol engines, as well as two diesel powerplants.
Included in the gasoline engine line-up will be the following: 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo with 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW), 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo with 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) and the 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) 1.6-liter T-GDi, which also powers the Ceed GT and ProCeed GT models.
The diesel models will feature the 1.6-liter engine in either 115 PS or 136 PS variants.
All but the base petrol engine will be paired to either 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT transmissions. In the early part of 2020, the engine family will be joined by 40V mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
Like the other models of the Kia Ceed family, the Xceed will come as an FWD.
Despite that, Kia have worked hard to deliver a smoother, more comfortable ride with the addition of new hydraulic rebound stoppers and softened springs in front and back. A new dynamic damper added to the rear cross-member also helps, even though the steering set-up is the same as other Ceed models.
