Fuel economy: 2022 Kia Rio MPG figures.

There isn’t usually a lot of excitement to be found in a small sedan or a hatchback that delivers 41 mpg (U.S.) while driving on the highway.

The 2022 Kia Rio, however, may well be the exception to that rule, as it is a fun ride that will save you money at the gas station!

The big question is how the new Kia Rio is able to deliver such great fuel economy figures whilst also providing a fun ride.

The answer to that question can be found under the hood, where the punchy 1.6L four-cylinder engine packs a pretty nice boost of power for a sub-compact car. The naturally aspirated 1,6L unit generates 120-horsepower and 112 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm.

That is a lot more power than you would expect for a vehicle that tips the scales at about 2,500 pounds, and it is certainly enough for those drivers who want a little bit of a thrill when they drive.

While it is the engine that is the main provider of the great fuel economy, you also have to give some props to the great transmission, too. All 2022 Kia Rio models come fitted with the IVT automatic transmisison that helps keep those gas station stops to a minimum.

Both models of the Rio, the 5-door hatchback and the 4-door sedan, are able to deliver the EPA estimated 41 mpg fuel rating on the highway, as well as a gas sipping 33 mpg in the city!
