Kia Seltos EV Coming In 2021

Kia Seltos EV to be released in 2020

Production of the Seltos electric SUV is scheduled for August 2020.

On the domestic front, Kia have a hit on their hands with the Seltos compact crossover, which has also seen great sales success in India.

The Seltos is way out in front in the small crossover segment in South Korea, while 60,000 consumers in India have reserved a new model.

U.S. drivers got their first look at the Kia Seltos at the L.A. Auto Show, with the vehicle expected to hit showrooms in spring 2020.

American consumers are likely to be as enthralled with the Seltos as those in Korea and India are. The compact crossover is incredibly stylish inside and out and boasts several different drivetrain options.

There is a lot to love about the Seltos, but the positive news does not end there.

Recent rumors suggest that an all-electric version of the Seltos will be made available for the 2021 model year, although the release will be in Asian markets only, so do not expect to see the EV in the U.S. or Europe anytime soon.

This is another sign that Kia are very much ahead of the game when it comes to all-electric options. The arrival of the Seltos EV will mean that Kia now has 3 such models, with the Soul EV and Niro EV rounding out the lineup.

(Rumored) range & specs of the Kia Seltos EV

The Seltos EV, which has been codenamed SP2 EV, will more than likely have the same drivetrain as the Soul EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. That would mean a pairing of a 204-hp electric motor and a 64-kWh battery pack.

As far as driving range goes, expect the Seltos to go 400 km on a full charge, which is slightly less than both the Soul and Kona EV models. The main reason for this is the larger size and weight of the Seltos compared to its siblings.

We will have the exact specification closer to the release date of the Kia Seltos EV.

Kia Seltos EV release date (not in U.S.)

As mentioned earlier, the Kia Seltos EV will not be getting a U.S. release at this time. The same is true of European countries, which means that the new all-electric model will be an Asian market exclusive.

It will be South Korea that gets the Seltos first, with India likely to be next in line given the success of the gas-powered version there. Since China is demanding that automakers create more electric models, it would seem like an obvious place for the Seltos to land.

Production & sales volumes

It is perhaps no real surprise to learn that the Seltos EV will be manufactured in South Korea, with production set to being in August 2021.

In the first year of production, Kia will make less than 10,000 units. That will change over time, though, with the worldwide demand for all-electric vehicles on the rise. As demand grows, so will the production numbers.
