Revealing the all-new 2010 Kia Sorento XM

Kia Sorento 2010 officially unveiled
39

Once again, we are bringing you a very hot and exclusive next-gen Sorento report with a series of spy pics previewing the all-new Kia Sorento in details! These latest spy shots have been taken during the official Sorento-catalogue photo shoot and are revealing us the 2010 Sorento crossover in all it’s glory.

Kia Motors will be officially taking the covers of it’s all-new Sorento at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show, which kicks of in the first days of April. More interesting for us is the official US premiere, which is rumored to happen at the upcoming New York Auto Show of the same month.

What we have learned about the 2010 Kia Sorento so far is the that fact that the next generation Sorento, codenamed XM, will deviate greatly from the current model (technically and styling-wise). Unlike the current model, the next Sorento will not be a proper body-on-frame built SUV, but rather a crossover vehicle sitting on a uni-body architecture.

The power will come from a variety of engine options including a gasoline powered 2.4L four-cylinder and a 270+ hp 3.8L V6. Gasoline engine range will be joined by newly developed 2.2L R-diesel engine and LPG powered 2.7LPi engine, which will only be available at South Korean market.

The R-diesel engine has been developed in conjunction with Hyundai and meets EURO 5 emission standards. It also boasts best-in-class 200 horsepower and achieves an impressive fuel economy of 33 MPG (14.1 km/L).All available engines will be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2010 Kia Sorento is sporting a dynamic exterior look reminiscent of that seen on the KUE-4 concept car. It’s front features Kia’s new signature radiator grille integrated harmoniusly between black-bezel trimmed headlamps while the sporty image is further enhanced with two-tone front bumper and mesh around the fog lamps.

The new Sorento will also be the first Kia vehicle to come equipped with a panoramic-glass roof! [Source: Bobaedream.co.kr & Kia Sorento colors]

Looks really well, hopefully it will be as good when we see it “in the flesh”.

  2. himi says:

Looks good in deed! I have been a little skeptic about it’s design over the past few days, since I have seen some shots, especially those showcasing the rear design.

Hopefully more quality shots will reveal the Sorento will be a stunner!

  3. BJD(Boris) says:

DAMN! that speedo, tacho dials look awesome!

  4. Patrick says:

i really like how kia is putting panoramic roofs on their cars now… you can see the headrest and part of the rear seat in the second last picture… looks great! just wish it hadnt lost its off road capability.

  5. Humfree says:

I love it and still dreaming to buy this great car if I have enough money at the time.

  6. BJD(Boris) says:

Was that black lining round the wheel wells needed?

  7. Kid Icarus says:

Love it. The glass roof is sexy.

  8. darren says:

I love it very nice & the dash is great.

  9. Anakputa says:

The Front of the vehicle reminds me of a dragon.. I am going to call it the Angry Dragon.

  10. Greg says:

This particular Sorento is equivalent to the “SX” model in the US. Blacked out headlights and electroluminescent “SuperVision” gauges are the biggest clues.

  11. OzyTone says:

Hmmmm??, I’m with you Himi at the moment, I’m still not sure about the design. It looks as though my dream of a reasonable off-road vehicle with a good towing ability are slowly floating out that huge glass “scenic” type roof.
But hey, Kia had to go this way I suppose. They didn’t have a vehicle to compete against all the other soft SUV’s that have cropped up from all the other leading vehicle manufacturers in the world. There’s a whole host of them, too many to list here. They are glorified people movers, which can handle the occasional dirt road excursion with relative safety.
One thing that really stands out as a negative for me, if you were going to go a little “off-road”, is those big mud/dust/bug catchers on the front of the vehicle where the driving/fog lamps are situated, they’re huge.
I think the owners of the current model of the Sorento are rubbing their hands together as they see the resale value of the cars going up, as it looks as though people have lost that tough little mid-sized vehicle that you could take almost anywhere. That’s probably why the sales in the States have been so good in recent months. It’s alright for you guys in the US, if you don’t like the new Sorento, you’ve always got the Borrego to go to. We haven’t got that luxury here in Australia. But before I shoot my mouth off too much, I had better wait for the final specs, hadn’t I….

  12. Anakputa says:

I just hope Kia is not pricing themselves out of the market. The new designs and styles are sweet, plus all the features. This will not be an off-road vehicle but an all weather driving machine.

  13. Greg says:

Well, look at the Soul. Even the base model is feature-laden, and look at the starting price. Kia is not overpricing, they are just short of underpricing!

  14. Bornloser says:

It looks good I admit, but it is not a Sorento anymore… 95% of my Sorento clientele (not to say 99%), bought because of the towing capacity of up to 3.5Tonnes (Kg tonnes…) and good off road capacities thanks to the body on frame concept. Now it’s nothing more than an estate with higher ground clearance…

  15. BJD(Boris) says:

well, it didnt need to be so high if it was goung to look like a crossover. it shud hv a lower ground clearance. the clearace in relation to its design makes it ugly.

  16. BJD(Boris) says:

I guess the flaws will grow on me later.

  17. Greg says:

It will grow on you. Soul and Rondo did, now I’m just waiting for no.3 and Sorento to grow on me.

  18. Kid Icarus says:

The Borrego has filled the slot in the Kia lineup for a true body on frame SUV with massive towing capabilities so it makes sense that the new Sorento went unibody…..the new design is what the public wants and sales will prove it when it’s released in 1st quarter 2010. It doesn’t make business sense for Kia to continue building a body on frame Sorento AND the Borrego.

  19. BJD(Boris) says:

could this also raise borrego’s sales?

  20. Colby says:

This vehicle looks incredible. I do not know what you are complaining about. It has great lines and style and 90% of the public could care less about towing to be honest. That is what the Borrego is for now.

  21. Kid Icarus says:

Exactly Colby….this new Sorento is much more appealing to the public and should help broaden Kias appeal along with the Soul and the new Forte.

  22. Greg says:

Actually, a Borrego LX with convenience package has almost the same exact features of an EX Sorento, for the same price.

  23. Greg says:

Sorry, that was quite inaccurate. I meant that an EX with similar features costs just $2,000 more. How do you go wrong?

  24. Colby says:

I agree with that. Borrego LX is very well equipped for the price point it starts at. The New Sorento will be a great seller since it now has a more aggresive style to it. It just needs to stay around the price point it is at now.

  25. OzyTone says:

Come-on Kia, send the Borrego Down-Under!!! Big problem is though, I guess they don’t make any RHD vehicles, do they??

  26. OzyTone says:

RHD Borregos, that should have said….

  27. Manistee Midget says:

I just hope the price of Gasoline does not go up, this will affect everything

  28. Sorento Nut says:

I guess the new design id the final impetus for buying a Land Rover Discovery 3 – sorry but I think KIA have lost the plot!

  29. Jason says:

I definitely like how this new XM looks. But some questions: Will the 6 speed manual transmission be available in the USA; Will this vehicle have a locking gas cap? The previous Sorentos do not (in the USA) and we have a lot of people ask for it. Kia doesn’t even offer an accessory for that. And now, the 2009 Rio sedans also do not have a locking gas cap, and someone just came in wanting one. Again, Kia doesn’t even have an accessory. Why would they make such a dumb decision? Why not have every vehicle have a locking gas cap, since almost every vehicle in the Kia line does have this? If they use an aftermarket locking gas cap, it will cause the Check Engine Light to come on. So their choice is: don’t lock the gas cap and have people steal your fuel, or get a locking gas cap, but the Check Engine Light will frequently come on. Neither is an acceptable solution.

  30. himi says:

I have just noticed that I typed Sorento corssover in the text instead of crossover! Sory for that guys! 🙂

  31. Jamie says:

I love the sunroof I have been waiting for the full view sunroof, I have a 2004 serento now waiting for the new one to come out to buy. They need to have the full sunroof thats my option on the vehicle that I like. I no the ex have the sunroofs

  32. Bil and Ludi says:

    It seems my dreams vehicule
I hope to order it very soon

    Whre are the full catalogues?
    Bil and Ludi

  33. David G says:

My regrets is that they put the antenna on the roof, where it will interfere with carrying items such as kayaks, that the 2nd row still does not fold down flat (how can they not know how important that is) and that it does not have a full size spare (a feature that saved me twice on long trips.) Whether or not I buy it will depend on the seat quality and the price, neither of which I have any experience with on this new model yet.

  34. Greg says:

The roof antenna is flexible. For the Rondo, we have a roof cargo box, and it just pushes the antenna out of the way.

  35. SorenoR Owner says:

I gurantee, this car is fvcking good.

  36. ARAZ says:
