Blacked-out Kia Sportage features a “Nightfall” special edition package.

Staying fresh in the competitive North American SUV market is tough.

One thing that Kia is doing is going with a dark theme, like we saw with the Telluride Nightfall Edition.

They are not stopping there, though, with the Sportage compact crossover the latest model to be given the dark treatment.

The 2022 Kia Sportage is in showrooms across the country as we speak. It comes with several updates, but it is the addition of the Nightfall Edition package that is going to appeal to a lot of potential buyers.

Now that you know it’s coming you are probably wondering what’s included with the 2022 Kia Sportage Nightfall Edition.

We are here to break it all down for you, so read on to learn more about this cool package.

Kia Sportage Nightfall Edition

Do not expect to see any technology or drivetrain changes with the Nightfall Edition, as all the additions are of the aesthetic variety. While most of the changes are on the exterior of the vehicle, there are a couple of minor adjustments to the interior.

Styling features that are exclusive to the 2022 Kia Sportage Nightfall Edition include:

  • Black satin window surrounds
  • Gloss black grille with piano black frame
  • Piano black fog light surrounds
  • Piano black front bumper trim
  • Piano black rear bumper trim
  • Piano black Side Sills
  • Piano black skid plates
  • Special black badging
  • 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels
  • Black roof rails

Cost of Kia Sportage Nightfall package?

The most frequently asked question that we get with these types of models is about the price. For many, a few aesthetic tweaks are not worth paying a premium for, so let’s look a little closer at the pricing for the 2022 Sportage Nightfall Edition.

If you are in the market for the Nightfall Edition or Nightfall Edition Premium packages, then you need to go with the Sportage S trim. The basic Nightfall Edition package comes in at an additional $1500, while the Premium package adds an additional $2000 to the cost, while also requiring you to have the basic Nightfall package.

As you would expect, the Nightfall Premium package comes with a few extras, including a change to the design of the front end.

According to the official Kia USA website, the changes are described as a “unique front fascia with 28 degrees approach angle.” This has been done to make the vehicle more capable of going off road on rougher terrain.

As mentioned earlier, there are no engine changes made for the Nightfall Edition, which means that you get the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder found on the S trim.

That unit comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, with the setup generating 181 HP and 175 lb.-ft. of torque in both FWD and AWD variants.

Increasing popularity of “blacked out” SUVs

Several other automakers are going the dark route with limited edition packages, so it’s no surprise that Kia Motors would follow suit with the Nightfall Editions.

Models from the competition include the Nissan Midnight Editions, the Toyota Nightshade Edition, which will be added to 10 different models, and the Hyundai Night Edition for the Tucson, and also for the Kona a little later on.
